Plimmer on Friday
So, four games to go and destiny very much in our own hands. Accrington come to the Meadow knowing one more win should see them safe, and Saturday's match has the potential to be a classic.
With the Station End open to Town fans. A 'Blue and Amber' flag day too, it should be a cracking atmosphere.
Looking a
t the league table, Town need to push on and secure the best play off place available. Ideally you want to finish in fourth and fifth to secure that second leg home tie if we can.
Certainly some interesting games this weekend. Bristol Rovers against Lincoln, and Stockport home to the MK Dons. And then what about Darlo home to Wycombe.
Then next weekend, Lincoln are away in a local derby at Grimsby, Bristol Rovers play host to Swindon, Wycombe are at home to the MK Dons, and Stockport have a local derby with struggling Bury, so it certainly aint over yet.
What we have to do is keep winning, and with our support, we can do that!
It's good to see tickets going so well for not only Wrexham, but Hereford too. As I did last week, I will be on the Prince of Wales coach, having a lovely cooked Breakfast, and hopefully celebrating a victory with a pint of Tribute on my return.
I thought last week we were disappointing, and played into Chester's hands tactically, playing a lot of long ball at times. But we had the majority of the chances. A point was ok in the scheme of things, but the general feeling was of two dropped.
The game reminded me of when we went to Gresty Road, Crewe, in our championship-winning season of 1994. We played pretty negatively that day, and drew 0-0. Davies came in for a fair bit of stick, but we stopped Crewe from winning and won the title by seven points, and gained promotion with three games to spare.
Now ok, Chester cant affect the promotion race per say, but it was important to keep things ticking along, and with results going beyond our expectations last weekend, two points in front and best goal difference amongst the chasing pack isn't a bad place to be.
So again, keep the faith, keep believing and who knows!
Last Friday I went 'Non Leaguing' and visited one of my fave haunts, Plaskynaston Lane. Home of the mighty Newi Cefn Druids.
I arrived about 15 minutes before kick off and programmes were already sold out. I hate going to a game and not being able to get a programme. That's twice this season now. TNS in October and now here. I reckon they must have printed 30, tops!
The game was ok. Welshpool didn't look as good as they did back in August when I saw them win at Airbus. But Druids seem to be going backwards. The club too. The club shop is in a portacabin and was just a pile of programmes, and few badges. They didn't even bother opening it at half time. Before there was a table in the club bar, shirts, programmes from all over. Such a shame.
Ken McKenna , TNS manager was at the game, as The New Saints play here on the last Saturday of the season. TNS also were due to play Welshpool this week, and lost. So the 'Soupies' chances of getting into Europe are looking good.
However Welshpool may end up in the mire shortly. Their Maes-dyre ground is shared with Welshpool Cricket Club. The F.A. of Wales is trying to improve standards of all grounds in the league and get them up to Minimum UEFA standards (which off the top of my head is 3,000 capacity with a 1,000 seats). There is no way Maes-dyre could ever become that sort of stadium. In fact Welshpool's last home game is going to be played at TNS because Welshpool Cricket Club are at home.
Welshpool had proposed swapping sites with the other local non league team Waterloo Rovers whose site could be developed to meet the requirements, but Rovers wont budge, and in the future Welshpool could be relegated from the League of Wales or forced to play elsewhere.
Lets hope a resolution can be made.
It's good to see the club moving forward and getting tie-ups with businesses both local and national. Asda have agreed to stock club merchandising which is excellent for the clubs profile.
Well done to all involved at STFC especially Sib for this deal, which should benefit us all.
Finally a heads up of the old end of season doos and bashes.
