We are pleased that we've got a result today that has stopped the bleeding; another defeat would have been hard and affected the lad's confidence.
We showed spirit and fight at the end there to come back but we aren't kidding ourselves. We know we are still a long way from our best and that was a hard performance.
The goal before half-time really killed it as the first half was boring for both sides, Bury were trying to slow it down and there was no tempo in the game but there was not goals and whilst that remained we had a chance.
The linesman gave the goal and that's unusual, the referee didn't give but the linesman did and the lads say the ball was nowhere near being over the line.
It meant we had to change the team talk that we were going to give at half-time and go with another one. The second half was hard but we kept at although we didn't play well be the longer the game wore on the spirit came back.
We had chances, but Bury had ones as well so we're not going to kid ourselves that it was nothing other than a hard fought point.
We practiced the goal a lot this week down the training ground with one wing-back crossing the ball for the other wing-back coming in at the back stick. It's something that you need a lot of energy to get and Ben Herd has bags of energy and for him to get to the back post was rewarding for all the work he did.
It was good to see Stewart Drummond score but he should have got at least 5 goals in the last few games, he had another good chance today in the first half where he went for a diving header where he might have volleyed it.
It wasn't a better displayed than in the last few games, if the ball dropped differently a few times then the result could have been different. Bury didn't take their chances like they have been in recent games, people who only look at the result will see 1-1 but we could have quite easily let 3 goals in but could have scored 3 as well.
It's good to have more points on the board and it will be good for the confidence as I thought confidence didn't look good at the start of the second half but they've really picked up now and let's hope we can kick on.
I thought Steve Leslie did well he came on, Hunty was struggling and I could have brought Danny Hall on but I felt bringing Steve on would kick us on a bit more. He does the taking of players and getting crosses in but taking Hunty off loose us that big throw, but Steve can put a decent throw in and is decent from free-kicks and corners, and Steve had a bearing on the game as did Stuart Nicholson.
