Gary Peters rings the changes as Town look to get back to winning ways against Barnet. Out go Michael Symes, Colin Murdock, Marc Pugh and Danny Hall while Luke Jones, Neil Wainwright, Dave Hibbert and David Hunt come back into the starting line-up.
Town were getting at the visitors right from the off with Leslie down the left and Wainwright down the right getting some good early balls in. Leslie whipped one if after 42-seconds that nearly found the head of Hibbert at the back post.
Town had the best of the opening chances and following some slick passing the ball found Nicholson in space out on the right, he powered for the by-line and rod an attempted tackle from Yakubu well, he then drove a low cross towards the penalty spot that found Drummond running in, he connected well with his left foot but there was a Barnet body in the way to block.
Stuart Nicholson had been busy all game and was putting a lot of work in chasing down the ball in the final third, once again he did this on the edge of the Barnet box and managed to come away with the ball, he had a clean run at the Barnet goal but Harrison was quickly off his line and down at Nicholson's feet, he did well to nick the ball past the keeper and then cut back a shot from a very tight angle but Devera was on the line to hack the ball away.
Barnet did look dangerous when they were given time on the ball and when Wainwright lost out in the Barnet half the visitors broke well, Kenny Gillet took the ball down the wing and was away, he kept his run going and delivered a decent low cross but Luke Jones slid in to put the ball behind for a corner.
With30-minutes of the game gone it had gone a little flat with neither side really being on top. Town were still huffing and puffing and working hard to close Barnet down but weren't really hurting the visitors in the final third.
Town created the best a move and chance of the half with just over 5-minuytes remaining. The home side put together some tidy slick passes to push the visitors back, Hunt attempted a flick but it was blocked but he stayed with it and regained possession, he then back healed the ball to put Nicholson in on goal, he drove in a great low drive but Harrison was down smartly to pull a great save.
Barnet had a couple of good sights on the Town goal and the best came after a long ball out of defence from Sagi Burton found Liam Hatch and Luke Jones chasing the same ball, it was Hatch who gained possession and he then drove in a low shot but Garner had stayed on his line and pushed the ball away from danger.
Half-time: 0-0
The half started a change in Town's line-up with Marc Pugh coming on to replace Steven Leslie.
There was a bit of a flare up after the ref blew up to stop play when Yakubu stayed down after a challenge, the ball went to Nicholson and Puncheon went straight through the Town forward, then followed the usual pushing and shoving and when it had calmed down ref Whitestone produced the yellow card for Puncheon.
The game had got a little niggly and when Tierney won a header fairly against Michael Leary the Barnet player stayed down, Neal Bishop then went mad for a while, gesturing to the ref that Tierney had led with his elbow, Bishop continued to harry the ref and in the end had to be restrained by his own team mates. When it all calmed down Leary jumped up and play continued.
Ref Whitestone was starting to affect the game a little too much with his whistle and this making it a real stop and start affair. When the ball dropped just inside the Barnet half David Hunt stopped his ground as Joe Devera swung a foot round to clear the ball, Devera stayed down and the ref was straight over to amazingly produce a yellow card for Hunt.
With just over 20-minutes of the game remaining Gary Peters made his second change of the afternoon brining on Ben Herd to replace Neil Wainwright.
Stuart Nicholson was having a tidy game up front for Town and was getting the best chances dropping too him. Good pressing from Town saw Herd loop a header back over the Barnet defence that put Nicholson in on goal, he got over the ball and drove in a vicious shot but Harrison was quickly out to put in a tremendous block to deny Town the lead.
Town did have the ball in back of the Barnet net after a hanging ball saw Yakubu and Hibbert challenging for the ball, Yakubu seemed to slip and this gave Hibbert space which he used well to control the ball and then strike a great shot past Harrison, but ref Whitestone had already blown up.
With just under 10-minutes remaining Gary Peters made his final substitution bring on Michael Symes to replace Stuart Nicholson, who left the pitch to a standing ovation from the Town faithful.
Town were pushing for a goal that they probably deserved and had a string of corners late on that first Stewart Drummond went close with a header, and then another great delivery from David Hunt was met by Darren Moss but his header also flashed just wide of the target.
The game looked to be ending for a 0-0 draw with ref Whitestone making a number of strange decisions, but Town were continuing to push and the winner and it came with seconds to go. Town kept pushing and the ball came to Hunt, he turned it to Tierney who pushed down the left, he played it to Pugh who held it up well and gave it back to Tierney who had burst into the box, he shot got caught under his feet but the ball then fell to Symes who pushed it under Harrison and the ball rolled into the net to make it 1-0 to Town.
Full-time: 1-0
