Gary Peters names a strong side for this evenings Johnstone's Paint Trophy game with Neil Ashton coming back into the starting line-up after recovering from his broke elbow. Jimmy Ryan, Stuart Nicholson, Darran Kempson, Danny Hall and Chris Humphrey all return to the starting line-up as well.
Yeovil were looking comfortable early one but when a move broke down Chris Humphrey showed his pace to breeze past Scott Guyett to win Town a corner. Then moments later Humphrey again had the beating of Guyett before delivering a cross into the Yeovil box that was cleared to Hall who drove in a show which went well wide.
The home side had the best chance to take the early advantage when a good attack saw the ball played to find Owusu on the right, he had Tierney in close attendance but manage to loop a ball to edge of the area on the left into the run of Marcus Stewart, he was in acres of space and hit a sweet volley but MacKenzie was there to pull off a great save to deny Stewart.
Town were having the better of the attacking play with Ashton and Tierney combining well down the right to force a number of throw ins in dangerous areas. Symes and Nicholson were busy up front but the best chance fell to Darren Moss who looped a shot over the Yeovil defence that had Mildenhall scurrying across his goal.
Yeovil were seeing a lot of the ball and were keeping possession well between the midfield and defence but they weren't hurting Town in the final third. Town were working hard to close down the space that home side had to work in and when Town had the possession they were taking the game to Yeovil.
Yeovil created a great chance on the half hour mark that saw them nearly take the lead, some slick passing saw the ball come to Marcus Stewart, he then played the ball to Paul Warne who then put the ball back to Stewart who had again found space on the left, he drove in a great shot that beat Mackenzie's dive but Kelvin Langmead slid in to hook the ball off the Town line.
For a 5-minute spell Town weren't holding onto the ball well, passes were going a stray and the ball retention wasn't as it should but Town were still getting into good forward areas and there was a nice moment when Stuart Nicholson found himself in space some 40-yards from goal, there was no support so he tried a long range lob which dropped over Mildenhall's game.
Marc Tierney had gone up for a header on the halfway line with Lee Peltier which saw both players needing treatment. Tierney had come down on his ankle and looked uncomfortable and after a few minutes of trying to run it off he was replaced by Steve Leslie, Ashton dropped into left-back with Leslie going on the left of midfield.
Half-time: 0-0
The half started with a change that saw Ben Herd coming on to replace Darren Moss in a straight swap at right-back.
Town had a great chance to grab the lead after Michael Symes did well to win the ball and then set Stuart Nicholson in on goal, he cut across the face of Mildenhall and then tried to slot the ball between the Yeovil keeper's legs but he was down smartly to smoother the ball.
Town continued push and have chances but when Chris Humphrey got a good cross into the box Symes should really have done better to get the header. Mildenhall took a kick long into the Town half and the visitors looked to be in control but then Jimmy Ryan seemed get caught out and this allowed the ball to be played to Lloyd Owusu, he seemed to leave Darran Kempson flat footed and then stabbed the ball past the out rushing MacKenzie to give Yeovil the lead.
Yeovil were beginning to get some better chances around the Town goal and when the home side harried the ball off Ryan they got it wide quickly, a cross was then looped into the danger area and Owusu used his height to get in ahead of Kempson and Langmead and get a header in which dropped just over the bar.
Ref Shoebridge was being very lenient at times and this was highlighted by Lee Peltier, twice he'd gone in late on Neil Ashton, twice he had caught him and given away free-kicks, then when Ashton cleared the ball Peltier was again in late to send Ashton flying but all the ref did was give the Yeovil No 27 a final warning.
Town were still pushing and looking for the equaliser, they getting the pressure on to the Yeovil goal and when a good period of pressure saw the ball bouncing around the home box no one could clear it, the ball bounced up to Langmead who tried an overhead kick, this was blocked and then came out to Danny Hall who drove a low drive in which Mildenhall did well to get down to pull off a great save on the line.
Humphrey did well to push the ball past Nathan Jones and win a corner. This was swung over by Ryan to the back post to find Kempson, he nodded the ball back across the ball box with the ball then getting pushed out to Nicholson who had found space on the right, he looped a cross over towards Langmead who jumped for the header but was put off by two Yeovil defenders and in the end Langmead couldn't get a clean header in on goal.
Town were getting a lot of free-kicks in dangerous areas and a number of corners as well. A good delivery from Steve Leslie found Michael Symes ghosting in at the near post to flick a ball over Mildenhall but the bar was there to saw Yeovil.
The pressure was coming from Town with less than 10-minutes remaining and when Humphrey powered past Nathan Jones the Yeovil left-back tried to pull back Humphrey but he shrugged him off, he then laid the ball back Jimmy Ryan who curled a great ball over that was put behind for another Town corner. This was taken short to Humphrey who clipped a great ball to the back post that Langmead just missed with a header and then Symes miss hit his shot at the back post when it looked like he would stab the ball home.
Once again Chris Humphrey found space down the right to push past Stewart and Jones to see himself in behind the Yeovil defence, he had Symes and Nicholson free to his left or could have run in on Mildenhall's goal but elected to flash a shot across the face of goal which went well wide of the far post.
Full-time: 0-1
