ShrewsWeb revealed last week that club had asked for a few changes to the proposed travel plan and the councils officers had recommended that changes be allowed. The Council's development control committee discussed the changes last night and have confirmed that the changes will be allowed.

The basic changed to the plan are that the club will be allowed to use the Park and Ride sites at Oxon and Harlescott and that use of the Park and Ride buses will be £2.

Town Vice-chairman Keith Sayfritz spoke to ShrewsWeb this morning to update Town fans on the news: "I'm absolutely delighted as it's a really important decision.

"We formed the liaison group around 12 months ago with the residents and all other parties and have worked extremely well together to come up with a travel plan that has the full backing of Shropshire County Council, the borough council officers and last night the development control committee passed the amendments unanimously.

"The final little bit in the jigsaw is that both the liaison group and county council wanted us to be able to use the park and ride at Harlescott, that comes under the control of the borough council who have a meeting on Monday night and we are hoping that they will pass that.

"The key changes to what people will have seen previously are that the park and ride for cars will be £2 per person as well as the change that allows the use of Oxon and Harlescott P&R.

"We are under no illusions that the hard work starts now. We've come up with probably the best plan that has been put together by any club but we won't know how good it is until we get real matchday situations.

"The liaison group will continue to meet and we will look at the issues as and when they arise."

The club released information of the proposed travel plan as a brochure prior to the Grimsby Town game. The brochure was made available to all Town fans and this will now be updated to reflect the changes that have been agreed. Mr Sayfritz also wanted to highlight a couple of points to Town fans: "We are going to do a similar job in publicising the travel plan as we did when we put out the original proposed plan but we'll wait for the outcome of Monday's meeting before we rehash the publicity material.

"The new material will incorporate the changes as well as highlighting a few other points.

"Those points are that we don't want people parking where they are asked not to park. Those areas are Oteley Road and the surrounding areas and we want to respect the residents in those areas.

"There are no excuses for people to park in the areas that they are not supposed to and there are no excuses for fans not to come to the games as the arrangements in place are far better than they ever were at the Gay Meadow.

"We've got the 670 parking places to permit holders only at the stadium, those will include disabled supporters and also Sovereign Suite members. Supporters will not be allowed to come onto the site on matchdays if they haven't got a permit.

"Sutton Nursery is permit holders only through the club and will be controlled on matchdays by the club, there are fans that we know of who regularly come from long distances and we will look to see if we can help them. Then there are the 100 spaces at the Brooklands that will be available on a first come first served."

Over the last few weeks a number of away fans have been contacting the club about travel options for the new ground. Mr Sayfritz highlighted a couple of the options available and revealed full information would be made available shortly: "The information for the away clubs will be passed to them separately through their clubs as the information we have put out so far is for home fans.

"The main message for away fans is to come on their supporters coaches as we have an unprecedented number of coach parking bays at the new stadium. Coaches will get priority over other vehicles and they will be the first allowed to leave the site.

"We will also have a limited number of parking permits at the ground for away fans which will be distributed through the away club."

To finish with we asked when the club was intending for the travel plan to be up and running: "The travel plan will start for the pre-season games with the first one scheduled in a several weeks time unless anything changes.

"Looking at implementing the safety certificate one of the key parts of that is implementing the smooth operating of the travel plans and the club and the authorities will be monitoring it closely.

"It won't be perfection from day one as it's a new habit for all the fans and people will need to get used to it.

"What we want the fans to do is take a close look at all the options and choose the ones that suit them best and that will help the club and the community."
