With the transfer window open there have been moves in and out of the club.

ShrewsWeb sat down with Town manager Gary Peters this morning to bring Town fans up to date with the happening at the club.

To start with GP confirmed that Town captain Stewart Drummond would be returning to Morecambe. Drums started out with Morecambe and became well known for his performances in their Conference side before a move to Chester City. He's done well since moving to Town but has remained in Morecambe where his family still lives: "We need an addition of two to the squad but I think we need a slight change to things as well.

"Stewart Drummond has left the club and gone to Morecambe, there have been a few rumours flying around about it and we knew this would happen because of the situation.

"Stewart lives in Morecambe and his wife is a teacher who works near to Morecambe and he's been trying to sell his house for 18-months now. He's nearly had it sold on several occasions but it's fallen through.

"He's also got a place in Chester which he's been able to stay at but he's been trying to run two households and has a 2 year old lad who he has to bring down with him and put into day care because his wife has her career.

"It hasn't been the ideal situation for Drums this season with the travelling and when an offer came in from Morecambe there is no way I could hide it from him. He still lives there and is friendly with a lot of people at Morecambe and there is no way I could hide any interest in him.

"Morecambe were prepared to give him a 2 ½ year contract and if I hadn't let him go then I don't think we would have seen the best out of him.

"Last season Stewart was in superb form in the last 10 games or so and that made me pick him as captain this season. I'm not sure that quite worked for Stewart and I'm not sure if it became a burden to him.

"I think it's the right move for both parties that Stewart returns to Morecambe."

GP has been quick to bring in a replacement for Drums with Kevin McIntyre joining from Macclesfield for a fee in the region of £50,000. McIntyre is a left footed player who GP hopes will bring some grit to the Town midfield. The Town manager is delighted to have brought him in on a 2 ½ year deal:"We've brought in a replacement to play in midfield with Kevin McIntyre coming in to replace Stewart in midfield.

"We got £15,000 for Stewart and we've spent that and a bit more on Kevin McIntyre. He's going to cost us around £50,000 to bring in with that depending on if we get to the play-offs and if we get promoted, and let's hope we are paying the full amount for him.

"Kevin is a tough tackling midfield player, left-footed and has been the corner, free-kick and penalty taker at most places he's been.

"He can play in a number of positions but I like him as a central midfield player where his tenacity, hard work and sweet left foot will make us a tougher side."

With Stewart Drummond joining Morecambe this now means that Town need to appoint a new captain. GP also confirmed this morning that he had asked Ben Davies to take over the role and the popular midfielder had willingly agreed to take over the armband: "With Drums going I'm delighted to announce that I've asked Ben Davies to take over the captaincy and he's absolutely delighted and accepted.

"His enthusiasm for everything he does is addictive and I'm sure the lads will enjoy the fact that Ben is going to be the captain.

"His professionalism and humour is something which has lifted the whole club since he's been back playing with us.

"His quality and ability is there for everyone to see and it is infectious and rubs off on the lads and there is no better role model than Ben."

With Kevin McIntyre joining that adds to one of the areas that GP highlighted that he wanted to strengthen. The other is the forwards line and in this week's Ask Gary, which will be on the site later, GP revealed three of the possible targets: "There are lots of names been bandied about and one of those is Richard Walker and yes we did try to get him in before the loan window closed.

"I thought we had achieved that but Richard still wants to stay at Bristol Rovers and see if he can get into the side.

"I'm in constant contact with Bristol Rovers because Richard is someone who can score a goal but at the moment he's a no go.

"The others I can confirm that we were interested in were Liam Hatch who we had a deal with but then Peterborough got involved, and Blackpool's Scott Vernon who wasn't involved but has recently returned and is scoring and Simon Grayson has now said he's part of their plans.

"We are still very much on that case and we've got lots of calls out there, I've talked to people, met people and we waiting on things coming back from us.

"That could change at any time and that could have changed by the time you read this article."
