Two In
Gary Peters has completed the signings of striker Guy Madjo from Crawley Town and midfield/defender Keith Briggs from Stockport County.
Madjo started his career with Bristol City but couldn't break into the first team at Ashton Gate. He then had spells in the Conference with Forest Green Rovers, Stafford Rangers and Crawly Town and has averaged a goal in just over every two games. 23 year old Madjo has also made the step up into the Cameroon international squad when he came in to replace Samuel Eto'o.
The paperwork was finally completed at 9am last night and GP is happy to have the exciting striker on board: "We've signed Guy Madjo from Crawly Town on a two and half year contract.
"He's scored a lot of goals in the conference for teams such as Stafford Rangers, Forest Green Rovers and Crawly Town and his record is a goal in just over every two games.
"He's got 11 goals in 17 games so far this season for Crawly and that alerted Cheltenham Town who took him on loan.
"He was withdrawn from his loan from yesterday and we've paid £20,000 which is good deal when you look at the money Conference teams are asking.
"He's around 6 foot tall, strong, quick and has been getting goals and as he's 23 years of age I think he's well worth the chance. He's a very solid, strong, physical can back into people and can get goals; he'll be a tough fellow to handle for centre-backs but also because of his pace.
"He did alright at Cheltenham but they've just taken in Bob Brooker on loan from Bristol City so it didn't look like Guy would have got the chance.
"I know Steve Evans from his Boston days and I spoke to him and as soon as we did that Guy was recalled from his loan and we did the deal.
"Guy was on a decent contract at Crawley and it doesn't look like they will make the play-offs so needed to look at things financially and we are pleased to have signed him."
The other player to come in is 26 year old Keith Briggs who has joined from Stockport County on non contract terms. Briggs can play in defence or midfield but tends to prefer the central midfield position: "Funnily enough Keith's last game for Stockport County was here against us.
"He only had a contract until January with Stockport and they offered him another contract but he turned them down.
"Keith has the same agent as Kelvin Langmead and he came and watched the game against Brentford. They left together and Keith asked the agent to try and get him into Shrewsbury.
"He thought it was a great a great set-up, a great football club going forward and if he could do the best to get him here.
"He'd been here training with us and has done well, and most of the times I've seen him play on the right 0f midfield where I like him but he feels his best position is in the centre of midfield.
"He's 26 years of age and has played around 200 games for Stockport, he moved to Norwich for fee earlier in his career, and he's worth a look at.
"We've signed him on non contract basis so that won't affect him if he wants to play for anyone but also means he's available for us and we can have a closer look at him.
"He's so anxious to come to Shrewsbury but he's also brought a freshness and enthusiasm to the place."
Madjo and Briggs are both available for the trip to Edgar Street on Sunday when Town take on Hereford United. With the two players on board GP now has two more options in his squad but he still looking to bring in another two players: "I don't think that the striker situation is finished as we are still looking for bring in an experienced striker. When I say experienced I prefer a 24 to 26 year old striker rather than going to the 33 year old ones.
"We are still looking for that striker and there will probably be another player coming in as well. "
Guy Madjo will have squad number 19 and Keith Briggs will have squad number 25.
