Keith Briggs
Keith Briggs joined Town late last week on non contract terms after leaving Stockport County.
The deal was done in time for him to be in the squad for the trip to Hereford United and in the end he was thrust straight into the starting eleven.
It was an eventful debut for Briggs with him scoring in the first half but then being credited with an own goal for Hereford's second: "I was a bit surprised to be starting after only joining the club last week but overall I was happy with the game.
"There was nothing I could do for their second goal, I tried to get my head to it but its gone past me, brushed my hair and gone in the net.
"I thought the first half went well and it's always good to score on your debut and I think I took it well.
"You try to impress when you first play for a new club i think i did ok."
He started his career with Stockport County after coming through as a trainee. He spent time with Norwich and Crewe before returning to County. He had been on a short term contract there and decided it was time for move: "I was out injured for quite a long time and I came back into pre-season and they offered me a 3 month, then another 3 months and that ran out in January.
"I then decided that I needed a new challenge and a new fresh start and different surroundings as I'd been at Stockport a long time. I wanted to get out and to play my football somewhere else and have a new start."
Keith revealed that his preferred position is in the centre of midfield but he is happy to fill in if the need arises: "My preferred position is central midfield but I can fill in a few positions if the gaffer needs anyone to slot in.
"I'm quite happy to play anywhere if it helps the club to win the three points.
"I did it enough at Stockport and played here there and everywhere in the side when asked.
"Sometimes it's a bit frustrating as you want a run in one position but as long as you are on the pitch and enjoying your football then it's fine."
The move is only a short term non contract one at the moment but he's been made welcome by his new team mates. He's hoping to impress enough that it could build into a more of a long term move: "I've really enjoyed the two days that I had in training last week and really enjoyed the game on Sunday.
"The lads have been brilliant to me and have really welcomed me into the club as have the staff.
"Fingers crossed it will go well and we will be able to sort something out a little bit more long term.
"There is a young set of lads here but they are only going to get better if they listen the management and to the older pros.
"Shrewsbury has some great players here and the more they play the more they will improve.
"I'm sure that the bad run of games will end soon and we will start to get up the table again quickly."
Having seen Town play from the opposition angle Keith has been impressed with what he's seen. The set-up has also impressed him and he is sure that results will pick up very soon: "I've played against Shrewsbury enough to realise that they are a solid outfit that works hard and are a decent team.
"The facilities here are brilliant and after playing here for Stockport on Boxing Day I realise what a great stadium it is.
"The club are going in the right direction and obviously I want to be part of it and hopefully get a few games under my belt."
When any player moves clubs it means a new manager and a new set of coaches to work with. He was been impressed with Gary Peters and his staff and believes what they are trying to achieve on the pitch will happen soon: "The gaffer and the coaching staff have been brilliant and certainly know what they are doing.
"They are trying to get their issues on games across to the players and I've no doubt that will happen
"It's about taking things that we are learning in training on board and when we do I'm certain the wins will come."
