Town manager Gary Peters has confirmed that Keith Briggs has left the club after not being offered a full contract.

Briggs had joined Town on non-contract terms after training with the club for a couple of weeks.

He did well and made the one start for Town in the 3-1 defeat away to Hereford United. The game started well with Briggs grabbing Town's goal and he went onto have a decent debut.

He was on the bench for the game with Morecambe and was due to take part in the reserves game against Wolves on Tuesday but pulled out with a virus.

In the end Gary Peters was impressed with Briggs but didn't think that his addition would improve his squad: "Keith saw the club when he played here for Stockport, his contract was up with the club but wanted to come and see if he could join us.

"He is an experienced player who has played a lot of games in this division so it was worth having a look.

"He asked if he could train and trial with us to see if we can get in and trained with us for a couple of weeks and did well.

"Keith is a good lad, a steady type who knows and understands the game and is a very likable character.

"Unfortunately I felt that he didn't make that difference, he would have been a good steady player but wouldn't make us that much better.

"With that in mind I thought it was pointless to give him a contract because if I did it would be stopping players who probably need to play the games to improve."
