Chris Humphrey
Chris Humphrey joined up with Town back in august 2006 after Town manager Gary Peters had been impressed by the youngster when he played in the reserves for WBA against Town.
Chris quickly made his debut for Town in the home game against Lincoln City and has been around the first team since then. He's now made nearly 25 appearances in both league and cup competitions for the club.
After he'd finished the paperwork on the contract Chris spoke to ShrewsWeb and he was pleased with the news: "It's brilliant news for me to sign a new contract with the club.
"To have signed another year is great and I love it at this club."
Since the start of the season Chris has made a handful of appearances from the bench and a couple of starts. The performances against Brentford and Morecambe have seen more solid performance from Chris and he puts this down to in part to his recent loan spell with Stafford Rangers: "I've been progressing throughout the time that I've been with the club.
"When I went out on loan to Stafford Rangers I thought that it was good for me to get some different experience.
"I enjoyed my time there but it was a lot different than this league as you get even less time on the ball.
"The first couple of times the gaffer started me I didn't have the best of games but I think that was a lot to do with nerves.
"The loan moved helped to get rid of those nerves and when I came back I felt more up for it and more experienced."
The move to the new stadium has also helped Chris's game with the flat surface being more compatible with his pace: "The pitch is brilliant here and I can run on it nicely and keep the ball.
"When you are running down it with all the fans screaming behind you it is brilliant to play out there."
The news of his new contract has been a big relief for Chris although the new s did come a bit out of the blub: "When you are training and wondering what might happen at the end of the season as to whether you'll have a club or not it brings a bit of uncertainty in.
"When the gaffer came in and said he'd like to offer me a new contract that took a real weight off my shoulder.
"I hadn't talked to the gaffer about a new contract but in the last couple of weeks he just came up out of the blue with the offer."
The focus for Chris now is to build on the solid foundations that he's created with Town. His aim is to add to his first team performances and to hold down a consistent first team place: "The focus now is to settle down and to keep working hard in training to push on.
"I'm going to keep trying and whenever I get that chance to play in the first team I have to take. I then have to try and make sure I stay in the team and not get taken out.
"To do that I know I've got to keep putting in good, consistent performances and keep doing what I do."
The squad at Town is a young one and they were quick to welcome Chris into the fold when he joined from Albion. They have continued to grow as a team and a group:"When I came in the lads were brilliant to me and made me feel really welcome with all the banter.
"I've been here quite a long time now and I've got to know everyone and we are really close as a group.
"Every time I get on the pitch now I've going to do my best to help the club to where we want to go, I still feel that we can get to the playoffs if we carry on doing when we know we are capable of."
