Keeper Ryan Esson has left the club after coming to an agreement with the remainder of his contract.

Ryan hasn't played in the league for the club so far this season and with the transfer window about close both parties have come to an agreement that leaves Ryan as a free agent.

Town manage Gary Peters confirmed the news to ShrewsWeb this afternoon that Ryan would be leaving the club: "Ryan Esson's left the club after we've come to an agreement on the remainder of his contract.

"He's not getting in the team here and it's a case that he needs to be going out and playing games.

"We've allowed him to leave the club early so that he can go and get himself fixed up."

Ryan joined in the summer of 2006 from Aberdeen with a big reputation behind him. His performances in the SPL and for the Scottish National team saw high hopes for Town's new stopper. He started well but a broken cheekbone picked up in the reserves saw his Town career take a setback: "Ryan was a really good player in the Scottish Premier league but it's a different type of league than the one we play in.

"When he started with us he didn't have the best of starts and then within a few weeks of being here he cracked his cheekbone and was out most of the season.

"This season he was been playing regularly in the reserves and doing well but needs to be playing first team football."

This now leaves Town with first choice keeper Glyn Garner and Chris MacKenzie but GP is happy with the situation for now: "Ryan leaving is not a problem as we have Chris MacKenzie who played a lot of games for us last season.

"Chris is there as cover for Glyn and works with him everyday coaching him."
