To avoid inconvenience to our disabled supporters the Club would like to correct a report in today's Shrewsbury Chronicle suggesting that the elevated viewing platforms in the South and North stands will be re-opened for the Lincoln game.

The Club is working very closely with the Safety Advisory Group, local Access Group and specialist advisers on this and is close to being given clearance to re-open the platforms. However, the Club has been advised to obtain some additional specialist evacuation equipment and sign-off is required on various associated procedures, so the platforms remain closed for now.

The incorrect report in today's paper arose from an innocent misunderstanding and the Club does not wish to imply any criticism regarding the report. The platforms themselves have been closed since the Barnet game on 17th November when the access lift in the south stand suffered a mechanical failure. Although spectators were successfully evacuated without incident using manual means, there was a regrettable delay in initiating this. The Club also acknowledges it could have communicated more rapidly and fully with those affected. A best practice review was therefore instigated and a decision taken to suspend use of the platforms until this was completed. All disabled season ticket holders were contacted and offered alternative use of the east stand platform (which has alternative access provision), while others have opted to use the pitchside wheelchair locations. The Club clearly wishes to re-open the platforms as quickly as possible as we are very proud of the facilities at the new stadium and have been delighted by the much increased attendance by people with disabilities who may have previously been deterred by the limited facilities at Gay Meadow.

As a result of the current review process the Club has forged an excellent relationship with the local Access Group. The Club is extremely grateful for their extensive input over recent weeks and also for the extensive help received from NHS and emergency service specialists. As a result of their very constructive suggestions, we believe we will be able further enhance the overall matchday experience for disabled spectators as well as improving the way in which any future manual evacuations are addressed.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the suggestion that the platforms will be reopened this Saturday. As soon as a firm date is available for their resumed use we will, of course, publicise this.
