Ince Postmatch
Martin Wild listened to Paul Ince's postmatch comments for his thoughts on Town coming back from being 3-0 down
MK dons boss Paul Ince read the riot act to his table-topping side after surrendering a three goal advantage in last night's thriller at Oteley Road.
The former Manchester United, Inter Milan and Liverpool star locked his team in the dressing room for 45 minutes after seeing James Constable rescue an unlikely point for Town in the first minute of stoppage time.
"I've told them what I think of them in there," said Ince. "It's been a successful season so far but you can't legislate for being 3-0 up and watching your opponent pull three goals back like that.
"I've had a go at the marking from the corner for their first goal, it gave them something to fight for and they got balls into the box second half. We dropped too deep and we've paid the price so they've been b******** in there and rightly so.
"To be fair there was a foul on Willy (Gueret, Don's goalkeeper) and the second one was handball. So let's get it right, the referee was an absolute joke - and the linesman - the whole lot of 'em! That's not because we drew that I'm saying that, it's because they made the wrong decisions on the goals, full stop. At the end of the day they've scored in the last minute of the first half and like I said it's given them something to hold onto. They've fought back well and got a lot of knock-downs from balls into the box. But no, it's our fault and we deserve it."
The game remained goalless after more than half an hour yet five minutes from the break, the visitors looked out of sight as goals from Mark Wright (2) and Kevin Gallen had rocked Town and their supporters.
"The first half was absolutely scintillating," said the former England midfielder. "It was just like the Rotherham game on Saturday where we got ourselves into a comfortable position. At 3-0 the game should be dead and buried but we didn't do the right things at the corner and sometimes mentally when a team gets a goal back it can rock us. We needed strong people to break up their passing game. Football's not just about tactics and techniques, sometimes you have to be mentally tough and we didn't cope in that department tonight."
Ince was asked if he expected Town's fightback and if the refereeing was a significant factor as well.
"I've already said the officials were a joke! In the second half their keeper's put one round the post and they give a goal-kick, it's almost like he wants them to get back in the game. Then there's handball down the line where we stopped and he waves play on.
"I shouldn't be stood here talking about the officials, I don't want to do that. We were three-nil up and you'd expect us to go on and win the game and we couldn't do that, so that's the most disappointing thing about tonight."
