Town Appoint New Manager
Shrewsbury Town have announced the name of the man who will take over the managers' post which has been vacant since Gary Peters left the club.
Paul Simpson has been appointed the new manager of Shrewsbury Town as the club prepare for the weekends trip to Macclesfield Town.
The former Preston North End and Carlisle boss has signed a 3 year contract and takes over from John McMahon who was in temporary charge for the draws against Rotherham and Darlington.
The club can confirm that John McMahon, Stuart Delaney and Joe Hinnigan will remain as part of the backroom staff.
Town chairman Roland Wycherley was excited that Paul had agreed to take up the post: "I am very delighted to have attracted a manager of Paul's calibre to the club.
"We were extremely pleased with the quality of the applications for the post and it was a very difficult decision to make.
"We believe we have appointed the man to take the club forward."
Paul Simpson was looking forward to the new challenge ahead of him: "I am very excited with the challenge that I now have with Shrewsbury Town.
"I'm looking forward to getting started with the job in hand and helping to realise the chairman's ambitions."
Paul Simpson was born in Carlisle on 26th July 1966; he started his playing career with Manchester City before having spells with the likes of Oxford United, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Blackpool, and Rotherham before finishing his career with Carlisle United. He had started his management career whilst playing for Rochdale and then moved to his home town club of Carlisle as player manager. He achieved successive promotions with Carlisle from the Conference and then into Coca Cola League 1 this brought him to the attention of Preston North End who he joined as manager in 2006.
