There has been more good news off the pitch with head groundsman Richard Barnett picking up the League 2 Groundsman of the year award.

The award is handed out by the Sports Turf Research Institute after they visit all the grounds around the country. They then look at all the marks and decide which is the best kept pitch for that season.

Town were up against Macclesfield Town and MK Dons for this year's award but in the end it was Richard's pitch that came out as the best.

It's a great reward for all the hard work and long hours that Richard and his team have put in over the season. It has been a season of learning as they got to grips with the new surface at the stadium and the quirks that it brings.

Speaking to ShrewsWeb this morning a clearly ecstatic Richard revealed what the award meant to him: "It's a great honour to receive such an award especially as this is the first season in the new stadium.

"To be awarded Groundsman of the Year for League 2 reflects on the hard work that has been put in by myself, Andrew Muir and the other people who have helped with the pitch this season.

"I'd like to thank the chairman and the board for their support thorough the season and giving me the chance to work in such a magnificent stadium."
