Announcement from STFC Chairman, Roland Wycherley

I am delighted to announce, with immediate effect, the appointment of Steve Wellbeloved as Chief Executive of Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

After a decade of hard work, the Club is about to move to its new state-of-the-art stadium. This is a vital step in achieving financial stability and developing the income streams necessary to sustain our aim of higher league football. We therefore face a challenging period of transition and then of growth to take full advantage of our new scale of operation.

It is the Board's view that, firstly, this process requires a Chief Executive to lead and co-ordinate developments on a day-to-day basis under the direction of the Board. Secondly, that we are fortunate to already have someone at the Club with the requisite skills, attitude and commitment. Indeed, since Steve joined us in a marketing and commercial role, he has already made a significant contribution across a far broader range of areas than originally envisaged.

I am pleased that, after a period when the stadium development has inevitably dominated Club affairs, we are now able to move forward on many wider issues and are putting in place the structure to manage change and achieve growth. It is also encouraging that we have been able to appoint a Chief Executive who already knows the town and Club well, having lived locally for many years and been a fan long before he became involved in the management of the Club.
