Q - What was all the fuss about near the end of the Colchester game? Why were you sent to the stand?
A - Colin McMenamin was challenged right in front of the dugouts and as Colin came off the pitch their fellas had barged him, Colin pushed him back and they went off the pitch. Then their assistant manager, Geraint Williams, was stupidly alleging that Colin had hit him, he did nothing of the sort, the momentum of them coming off the pitch made them run into the people of the sides.
I thought it was completely out of order that an incident like that should be a way for him to try and get Colin sent off. He was trying to run to the referee saying that he'd been hit when nothing of the sort happened. Their assistant manager and manger were standing in the technical area and he then tried to make out it was something which hadn't actually happened.
It was totally out of order and I had a word or two with him.
Q - I am amazed how well Ryan Lowe is doing at Chester. Have we got a sell on clause?
A - No we haven't got a sell on clause. We aren't amazed that Ryan is doing so well as he always had the ability to play well in certain games; however he was determined to leave the club. His involvement with Chester was such that their chairman had offered him a contract for this season and next at a time when we couldn't offer anyone a contract. We didn't know what league we would be in, whether we would escape relegation and if I had offered Ryan a contract then the other 14 players who were out of contract would want a new contract.
In the whole scheme of things Ryan Lowe leaving was the price we had to pay for staying in the division, if I had the same choice to make again I'd do the same thing. Ryan's performances around the time we let him go were diabolical and he proved during his performances near the end that he didn't want to play for the club. As supporters I think you should be just as pleased that a player who doesn't want to play for you leaves the club.
Q - Time wasting and cynical spoiling tactics are becoming more prevalent as each season passes. Do you think this is just part of the game or something that needs stamping out before it gets out of hand?
A - I think the referees have the ability to stamp it out quite easily, they can book people for time wasting and they can add time on. As long as the referee is bright enough this can't go ahead, the ref have everything in their favour, they can book people for time wasting and if the same person time wastes again then they can send them off.
Ref's need to adear to that and make sure they are strong, if they feel time has been wasted then they can add it back on.
Q - The strong rumour is you've had a fall-out with Gavin Cowan, What's happened?
A - No, there's no chance of that or me falling out with any of the players at all.
I told the media after the Rochdale game that one of the good things about the game was after the game players wanted to fight each other in the changing rooms. That's always a great sign and at the clubs I played for and were successful at you always had that feeling after a game you get beaten as it could always kick off as there was so much passion in there. After Rochdale it did, Colin McMenamin had a go at Gav Cowan, Gavin came back and tried to have a go back and I jumped in the middle of it, stopped it and sat Gavin Cowan down in his seat. I then told him in no uncertain terms that I wasn't surprised Colin wanted to have a go at him as we thought he'd ducked the header that he could have got away and that lead to their fourth goal.
That happens in changing rooms and I'm pleased with the passion and other people got involved in the argument as well. I separated them but at one stage I said I should have let him hit you Gavin.
Gavin needs to understand that he is in professional football and when you make a mistake it costs you. He's still in a learning process as he's come from the non league where you go to work for your living and then go and pick up some extra money playing football. This is the professional game and the lads need their bonus because it's everything to them, they don't get good wages so they can't ignore getting a good bonus for winning.
We haven't fallen out, he was told in no uncertain terms that he had been dropped for the next game due to what he did in the Rochdale game and since then he's had two reserve games and played really well. He's picked himself up and would be very surprised if he isn't on the subs bench for Saturday.
As usual with your rumours that people have fallen out with me, we don't fall out I tell them the truth but I treat them the same as everyone else.
