Town's youth side recorded their first league win of 2008 on Saturday when they beat Rochdale 3-2 at Walford.
Town went in at the break 1-0 to the good after schoolboy Will Richards got on the score sheet with a header.
In the second half Town increased their lead with an Andre Gray strike but they then sat back to allow Rochdale to peg the score back to 2-2.
In the end a fine run and shot from Aaron Gibson restored Town's lead and gave them a much need win.
After the game Town's head of youth Nigel Vaughan was pleased with the result but not the overall performance: "It's our first win in the league since the 1st of September which is a long long time ago.
"Football can be a funny game as I thought we played well at Preston last week and never got anything out of the game but on Saturday on individual performances I felt we were poor and it was only Dave Maguire who came out with any real credit but in the end we won the game.
"We were 1-0 up at half-time and we were trying to hurt them down the side in the first half. We got a free-kick around our box which Will Richards has knocked down to Andre Gray whose shown his pace down the flank and got fouled, Kalum Evitts has whipped a great ball in which we've gone close with but won the corner. Anthony McDowell haws put a great corner in and schoolboy Will Richards has got up to scored with a header.
"The front two of Andre Gray and Jan Coulston are only now starting to get used to playing with each other, Andre had a stress fracture of his leg which saw him miss about 3 ½ months of the season, and over the last 5 games or so I've played them and they are beginning to get a bit of an understanding but they have been frustrated at not scoring.
"There was some good work from Coulston and he's then laid the ball off to Gray and instead of blasting the ball he's side footed it and it's gone in at the far corner to put us 2-0 up. Although we hadn't been playing that well I thought that on the balance of things we deserved to be in front.
"We then sat back a little bit and allowed their runners to run from midfield and then all of a sudden they created a chance a minute after we'd scored, Dave Maguire's made a great save and the ball's then gone to his left hand side but it's dropped to one of their lads and he's put it in.
"That put us under a little bit of pressure and lo and behold they've got a corner which has seen slack marking from our defence and the lads headed it in off the far post to make it 2-2.
"We'd gone from being 2-0 up and looking comfortable to letting them get it back to 2-2 and thinking that we've given it away.
"We do the log books with the lads and one of the questions given to Aaron Gibson was is he going to be getting forward and score goals, on Saturday he's taken this on board when he's played a lovely one two on the left and then gone on, he's kept going and going and all of a sudden he's hit it and it's in the back of the net, his celebrations afterwards were unusual but it was pleasing to see.
"Maybe I need to take the time to look back at the game and see the true reflection of the result as opposed to being uptight like I was on Saturday.
"We'd worked hard with the lads all week on what to do but they still aren't doing what we've asked of them, they aren't getting hold of the ball up front, the lads in midfield are trying to play one touch football when we tell them to get hold of it and keep the ball. I expect them to take that on when we work all week and that is the frustrating point but at the end of the day we got the result so I can't be that hard on them.
"It is a great result for us and one that we needed but overall the performance wasn't as good as it was the week before and it's not as good as the standard that the lads have set themselves."
