Town's youth side finished their home fixtures for the season with a defeat at the hands of Blackpool.

A very young looking Town side were fielded but they did very well over the 90-minutes and can think themselves unlucky with the defeat.

The sides scored a goal apiece in the first half with Town's goal coming after a neat move was ended with a crisp finish from Jan Coulston.

With Monday's reserve game in mind Nigel Vaughan made changes at half-time but his side continued to put in a good performance and were unlucky to come out of the game with a defeat.

After the game Town's head of youth Nigel Vaughan was pleased with his young side's performance over the 90-minutes: "It was another defeat but there were a lot of positives from Saturday's game to be honest.

"We started with Connor Goldstone, who's a 15 year old, in the back four with 4 other under 16's in the side as well as having 2 under 15's and an under 16 on the bench who all came on.

"I was very pleased with the performance as we tried to play and get the ball down and pass it, sometimes we aren't crisp or accurate enough but on Saturday the lads were superb in that part of the game.

"We took the lead with a good goal after Josh Evan's had done well getting the ball off their centre-forward, the balls then gone to Andre Gray and he's slipped Jan Coulston in. Jan is very much a confidence player but hasn't been getting into those positions recently but he got the goal on Saturday and after that his game was lifted and he was much better.

"We then gave a bit of a sloppy goal away when we were on the attack closing down their back four, the balls gone to their keeper and the lads hooked the ball on, it's then been headed on and that's split our back two of Connor Goldstone and Wayne Farmer, their number 9's come in and he's lifted it over Dave Maguire who was a little off his line to narrow the angle.

"Blackpool huffed and puffed and had a few corners but we were organised and got our heads to the ball to deal with things, we did have a number of chances with Andre Gray, Kalum Evitts but we couldn't get the goal we maybe deserved.

"It was 1-1 at half-time and I had to make 2 changes and bring off Andre Gray and Jan Coulston as they are involved in the reserves game against Coventry, and brought on Shane Bennett who is a 15 year old and David Howarth and the two did well, then later in the half Scott Keays came on who has already signed a scholarship for next season.

"In the second half we continued to push and do the right things and I was pleased with the lad's performance, but in the end Blackpool nicked another goal to give them the victory."
